Keynote Presentation: Getting "IT Governance" outside the IT area: experiences from KLM and insights in COBIT 5
By
Steven De Haes, PhD, Associate Professor Information Systems Management at Antwerp Management School

After the emergence of the IT governance concepts, the notion received a lot of attention. However, due the focus on "IT" in the naming of the concept, many IT governance implementations are still mainly an issue "within IT". Yet, one would expect that the business would and should take a leading role. It is clear that business value from IT investments cannot be realized by the IT function, but will always be created by the business through its use of IT. This keynote session discusses the choices made by the Dutch airline KLM to more fully engage its business managers in the governance of IT and the change-agent role played by a new CIO Office. This session will also address how the new COBIT 5 embraces the concept of managing and governing IT in and end-to-end responsibility between business and IT.
