The theme of the 2012 itSMF Belgium conference is
Over four years ago ITILv3 tried to revolutionise IT Service Management with the concept of IT-Business integration. ‘Alignment’ was no longer enough, IT and Service Management need to progress.
Good Service Management practices have been designed to primarily serve the business stakeholders, it should be relatively easy to show the advantages of these practices to the business. However it is increasingly difficult to persuade businesses to support or to fund Service Management introduction or improvement projects. Does this mean the advantages of Service Management are not crystal clear to the business? Or is it simply the ITSM community is unable to show the value in a clear way?
Very much like “beauty” and “truth”, “value” is “in the eye of the beholder” and demonstrating the value of (IT) investments is now more critical than ever.
Dynamic businesses often see Service Management activities as a brake on their “next big thing”.
IT needs to work with the business to ensure they understand the real operational constraints. DANGER! These business managers will be the first to notice if their competitors are not subjected to these same constraints.
Is not the loud call for a revolution coming from the business in stark contrast to the tight control which many ITSM initiatives openly strive? Is it really more “control” that we need, or the ability to think beyond that control.
itSMF Belgium wishes to explore the improvement potential for present and future service management activities. Our 2012 annual conference aims to be the scene for a call towards the ITSM community to leave behind operational enigma’s and to “live the business”.
