TIPA® – an open and standardized approach for the assessment of ITIL® processes - 26th October 2010 

Organizations that wish to implement and improve their ITSM processes can get into trouble when the time comes to select the methodology for the assessment of their processes. Most consulting companies have developed and use their own approach, but they are not prone to give too much insight on how it is built, and how it works. The result is often moderate confidence to assessment results, but also little possibility to benchmark with results produced by other methodologies, and more generally to the market. To face this issue, the international community has mandated the ISO to develop a disciplined and standardized approach to process assessment. TIPA is the application of this generic standard for process assessment (SO/IEC 15504) to the assessment of ITSM processes proposed as best practices in ITIL. Speaker: Alain Renault is senior R&D Engineer at Public Research Centre Henri Tudor in Luxembourg. He is involved in projects related to process assessment & improvement, and IT service management. He is a Vice-President of itSMF Luxembourg and an active member of the ISO Working Groups on IT Service Management, and on Process Assessment. Alain is co-author of the TIPA methodology. He has been performing TIPA assessments in big accounts in Europe, USA and India.
